History

Akku Vision was founded in 2011 as E-Bike Vision and was acquired by Daniel Maiberger in 2014. That year, the company moved to a larger location. Due to its growth, Akku Vision moved to a building in Haibach, Germany, in 2020. That same year, together with Triathlon Batteries, TAV Battery was founded for purchasing and production. From the beginning, Akku Vision focused on high-quality e-bike batteries for the replacement market and grew significantly. Why should an additional charger from E-Bike Vision be purchased?

During the development of the E-Bike Vision Battery compatible with Panasonic 36V, E-Bike Vision unfortunately had to determine that compatibility with the original charger could not be achieved. To charge the E-Bike Vision Battery, one of the 36V chargers with 4A or 6A is required.

The E-Bike Vision battery cannot be charged or discharged. What can be done?

The E-Bike Vision battery, compatible with the Gazelle Innergy drive system, is automatically set to deep sleep mode after one hour of inactivity to reduce self-discharge. To use the E-Bike Vision battery again, it needs to be activated. This can be easily done by pressing the capacity button once briefly. The individual LEDs of the capacity indicator will then light up completely once, indicating that the BMS of the E-Bike Vision battery has been started and activated. When the capacity button is pressed again, the capacity will be displayed as usual. After activation, the E-Bike Vision battery can be recharged.

With the AV-Toolbox mobile app, all necessary data of the battery can be viewed. The app is used to analyze batteries and provides information about their condition and usage. It's easy to read battery data and even perform a software update.

AV-Toolbox app

My battery is not showing up, what should I do?

Tap the magnifying glass icon at the top right in the app, then turn the battery on using the control button. If necessary, connect the battery to the charger to keep it permanently powered on (if the charge level is less than 100%).

For E-Bike Vision batteries compatible with Bosch* drive systems from 2019-2020, it may be necessary to update the Bluetooth chip. If the battery is not showing up in the app, follow the instructions to perform the update.

How to choose the right battery?

If there are multiple batteries, simply turn on or connect the desired battery to the charger.

The battery is displayed by default as 'Battery_GOBT'. In the overview, you can tap on the device to change its name. With a unique name, the battery can be quickly found during the next use of the app.

Why are there so few charging cycles displayed, even though the battery has been connected to the charger many more times?

This is because the app only displays full cycles. A full cycle means the battery is fully discharged and then fully charged (1 full cycle = 100% of the battery energy charged and discharged). Partial cycles are added up.

For example, if an e-bike battery is charged from 20% to 70%, then discharged to 40%, and finally charged to 90%, this corresponds to three partial cycles:

  • Partial cycle 1 (20% – 70% charged) = (70% - 20%) / 2 = 0.25 full cycles
  • Partial cycle 2 (70% – 40% discharged) = (70% - 40%) / 2 = 0.15 full cycles
  • Partial cycle 3 (40% – 90% charged) = (90% - 40%) / 2 = 0.25 full cycles

Total number of cycles: 0.65 full cycles.

How can the battery be updated?

After the battery is connected, tap "Update." The current firmware status will be displayed, along with the availability of a new update.

When should the original e-bike battery be replaced?

An e-bike battery has a lifespan of about three to five years with normal use and 500 to 1000 charging cycles. When the capacity noticeably decreases and the range becomes smaller over time, it is an indication that replacement is needed. If there is visible damage to the casing, the battery should be replaced immediately. Some dealers can read the battery and determine the SOH (State of Health) and remaining capacity. Based on that, a decision can be made on whether replacement is necessary.

What are the benefits of the E-Bike Vision battery?

A greater range: All E-Bike Vision batteries contain considerably more energy than the original batteries. Using these batteries increases the range and enables longer tours.

More comfort: All E-Bike Vision batteries are equipped with an additional external charging socket. In combination with the associated chargers, it is possible for the first time to charge the battery directly on the pedelec without removing it.

Shorter charging time: When speed is important, the 6A quick charger can reduce the charging time by up to 40%.

Light weight: The Bosch Lite batteries are particularly lightweight.

Why do the E-Bike Vision Batteries have a higher capacity than the original batteries from the manufacturer?

Because these batteries use the latest developments in cylindrical lithium-ion cells and either contain higher capacity cells or more cylindrical cells are integrated into the E-Bike Vision batteries.

How far can you go with the E-Bike Vision Batteries?

Since there is currently no standardised method for calculating the range, we are unfortunately unable to make any binding statements about this. The range of a pedelec depends on many factors. The available energy in the battery is of course essential, and this is the focus of every product development.

In addition, there are various limiting factors that make determining the range complex, such as:

  • Traject profile
  • Weight of the rider
  • Outside temperature
  • Wind conditions
  • Support levelMotor system
  • Bicycle type and weight
  • Tyre pressure
  • Extra cargo in bicycle bags or baskets

How can an e-bike battery be tested?

A battery can be read with special analyzers, such as a Test Tower at Twindis. A detailed report provides insight into the condition of the battery.


Compatible E-Bike Vision batteries can also be tested at home via a smartphone with the AV-Toolbox app. This app provides a compact overview of selected battery values.

Can the current battery simply be exchanged for an E-Bike Vision replacement battery?

Yes, as long as the compatibility is guaranteed according to the product description and no exceptions are mentioned. Since there are many e-bike manufacturers with different frame geometries, it may happen in rare cases that the E-Bike Vision battery does not fit.

Will the current charger work with the replacement battery?

Yes, with one exception. All E-Bike Vision batteries can be charged with the original charger. The only exception is the E-Bike Vision battery for the Panasonic 36V drive system, which requires an E-Bike Vision charger.

Do the E-Bike Vision (fast) chargers work with original batteries?

No, the (fast) chargers from E-Bike Vision are exclusively designed for charging E-Bike Vision replacement batteries.

No, the original charger cannot be connected to the external charging contact.

No, most e-bike drive system manufacturers use proprietary connector ports and limit the maximum charging current of the battery. Only E-Bike Vision chargers can charge E-Bike Vision batteries via the additional external charging contact. If you do not have an E-Bike Vision charger, you can use the original charger to charge the battery, except for the E-Bike Vision battery for the Panasonic 36V drive system.

How long should the E-Bike Vision battery be charged?

That can be quickly calculated. If the E-Bike Vision battery has a capacity of 17 Ah and you want to charge the empty battery to 100% with a 4A charger, it takes approximately 4.5 hours.

Battery capacity : charging current = approximate charging time

17 Ah : 4 A = 4.25 hours

17 Ah : 7 A = 2.5 hours

The reason we use the words "approximately" here is due to the CC/CV charging procedure. Initially, charging occurs with a constant current (CC), and towards the end, only with a constant voltage (CV). During the CV phase, the current decreases significantly, making the simple calculation method inaccurate. Therefore, about half an hour of extra time is added.

Does the E-Bike Vision Battery always need to be fully charged?

No, the charging procedure can be interrupted in between. This will not damage the E-Bike Vision battery.

Storage and maintenance

How can the battery be stored if it is not used for an extended period?

For long-term storage, such as in winter, there is a specific temperature range in which the lithium-ion battery performs best: around +17°C in a 50% - 70% charged state. This minimizes the chemical aging of the e-bike battery. Typically, the e-bike battery loses about 1% of its capacity per month.

Our E-Bike Vision batteries automatically switch to deep-sleep mode to reduce self-discharge caused by the power draw of the BMS. For the next use, the e-bike battery should be fully charged so that the BMS can calibrate itself.

How can the e-bike battery be maintained?

The e-bike battery requires little attention and maintenance. Dirty spots can be wiped with a damp cloth. Avoid using a steam cleaner for direct treatment of the e-bike battery and motor. Also, do not use grease.
